Eye Makeup Removers
Regular facial cleanser can be too harsh and have ingredients that irritate the eyes. Also, mascara and eyeliners, especially if they are waterproof, can be very difficult to remove. Therefore it is important to use a product that dissolves mascara. Put a little makeup remover on a cotton pad and gently rub over your eyelashes and along the eyeliner, avoiding rubbing the delicate under-eye skin. You may need to use more than one pad to remove all of the mascara and eyeliners. Then remove the makeup remover residue with a wet lukewarm wash cloth. Be sure to apply hydrators below the eye after washing off the eye makeup.

Eye doctors do not recommend using an oil or cream makeup remover such as baby oil or a creamy makeup remover because the residue can irritate the eye. If it doesn't irritate your eyes, that could be a good choice for you. But my eyes have gotten increasingly sensitive after I had Lasik so I prefer to use an eye makeup remover and then use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser to remove the residue. Cetaphil is very gentle and will not irritate the eye like some other cleansers.

The following eye makeup removers are favorites:

Lancome BI-FACIL Eye Makeup Remover - this is my favorite and it removes waterproof as well as non-waterproof eye makeup

Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover - best inexpensive eye makeup remover but a little greasy so be sure to use a gentle cleanser afterwards

Sephora FACE Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover - gentle and non-irritating, water and silicon based, requires soaking the cotton pad and holding it on the eye for 30 seconds to work properly

Clinique Naturally Gentle Eye Makeup Remover - gentle and great for sensitive eyes but not as effective on waterproof makeup

Almay Makeup Remover Pads - the non-oily version doesn't seem to work as well as the oily version

The Body Shop (Chamomile) - gentle, dissolves makeup but contains alcohol so be sure to cleanse or at least rinse with water and apply eye moisturizer

NARS Eye Makeup Remover - gentle and soothing but works on waterproof makeup, too

Or, as many people said, Baby Oil - see Home Remedies
