Hairsprays for the Best Hold
What we look for most in a hairspray is that it will hold our style all day long - or even longer. But the kind of hold we want varies by the person and hair type. People with thin, fine hair do not want a hairspray that weighs their hair down. People with thicker, heavier hair want a stronger hold. Most of the time we don't want our hair to be stiff and sticky. We want it to move with us and bounce back into place. But sometimes, for an elaborate style, we do want to "freeze" it in place.

I prefer aerosol sprays because it has a finer mist that spreads over my hair evenly but many people are happy with the non-aerosol pumps which supposedly are better for the environment.

Sebastian Shaper and Shaper Plus - Shaper is my all time favorite for many years. I have very fine hair with no body so I need something that adds body and holds a style. I use the Shaper because the Shaper Plus seems a bit too sticky and stiff for me. To get extra body and hold, I spray some through my hair before I use my flat iron to get the style and shape I want and then after using my iron, I brush my hair (it really is brushable hairspray) I spray again to finish and hold the style. It doesn't feel stiff or sticky. Those with thicker hair may prefer Shaper Plus. Both are extremely popular hairsprays.

Artec Texture Line Texture Spray, Regular Hold Hairspray - I tried this hairspray because it was recommended by my stylist. He likes to change things up and knew that I had used Shaper for a long time. It is a good hairspray but I still like Shaper better. This hairspray is not sticky but it doesn't seem to hold as well as Shaper.

Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine Super Spray Firm-Hold Finishing Spray - If you like Shaper Plus, you will like this spray, too. It has a very firm hold but also provides shine. So if you are going for very firm, you might like this one better for the shine. It doesn't give that dull finish that many hairsprays do.

Pantene Pro V Ice Shine Hairspray - Pantene products are about the best drugstore products and this one does not disappoint. It provides shine and a good hold.

Thicker Fuller Hair Weightless Volumizing Hair Spray - I haven't tried this hairspray yet but it popped up in lots of reviews and also gets a good customer rating on Amazon. So I am planning to try it soon. Will let you know what I find out.

Other hairsprays that scored high in ratings are:

Bumble and Bumble
Sally Beauty Ion
Rusk Being Sexy
Suave Mega Hold

Would love to hear from you in the Blog if you think any of these hairsprays that I haven't tried will beat Sebastian Shaper for brushable firm hold without being stiff or sticky. Post your favorite as a comment to the Blog about Favorites.
