Best Shampoos for Shiny, Healthy Hair
Since I have fine, limp, color-treated hair that has a tendency to be oily, I have searched long and hard for the best shampoo. I use a lot of products on my hair so it is important to me that I can clean all this build-up out of my hair. Since my hair is color-treated, I need a shampoo that will preserve the color, make my hair shine and not add further damage. And since my hair is very fine, I need a shampoo that will help give my hair body and bounce.
The following shampoos are my favorites plus a few that are favorites of friends and family.
Lush Big Shampoo - This shampoo comes in a tub rather than a bottle. It's chunky and gritty. You need to get your hair very wet in order to work up a lather with this shampoo. If you get your hair wet enough, it only takes a very little bit so it will last a long time therefore it is not really as expensive as it appears at first glance. It is advertised to take ten or twenty years off the age of your hair. It smells great, will cleanse your hair of all the gels, mousse, hairspray, and everything else you let build up on your hair and scalp. It can be drying so you must use a good conditioner. But it truly does add shine and body and makes your hair feel great. Some may choose to use it just once a week to do your weekly deep cleansing of build-up and use something gentler for the other days. Or, if you have very dry hair, you may want to avoid it completely. Personally, since I have always tended to have oily hair and I use a lot of products to volumize my fine hair, I use it every day and love it.
Philip B. Peppermint and Avocado Shampoo - This shampoo is also advertised as a clarifying and body-building shampoo. It is gentler than Lush Big and the peppermint, plant extracts and essential oils acts as aromatherapy. The peppermint also is very soothing and healing to sensitive scalps. It is a good alternative for those with very dry, color treated hair, a sensitive scalp and for those who want the aromatherapy.
Biolage Cooling Mint Shampoo - This is a very good clarifying shampoo that doesn't strip the moisture from your hair. It is very good for cleaning oily hair but doesn't build body as well as the two shampoos listed just above.
Nioxin Cleanser for the Hair is a very good shampoo for people who have problems with thinning hair. This shampoo prevents hair loss and keeps hair in great, healthy shape.
Pureology Antifade Complex Hydrate Shampoo is the very best shampoo for preserving your color between salon visits. It is gentle and moisturizing for your color treated hair. This shampoo is consistently rated high by stylists.
Dove has a variety of good shampoos that get very good ratings for being inexpensive, cleaning well and smelling nice. Dove Daily Moisture Therapy Shampoo gets particularly high ratings. My son swears by it for his dry, curly hair. It also cured his tendency to have mild dandruff. This is the very best budget buy shampoo.
